Science/ D.T./ art....Light Up Robot Boxes

Year 4 really saw the light today!
We combined our skills in several subjects to create our amazing 'Light Up Robot Boxes.' We worked independently designing and creating our collage robots. Then we selected the components we needed and assembled a circuit inside the box. Finally we put a switch on the side to control the circuit.

We even had one robot that winked!!

                                                 WOW!!

Enterprise week . The final day.

Today was the last day of our exciting Enterprise week. It started with an assembly with every class pitching and advertising their products.
Then Mr Galloway came to tell us about his job in thermal management. He explained that he works for Aerospace in the design of heating, cooling and ventilation systems for both passengers and engines. We know from our topic work 'Making Connections' that fans are very imporatant for keeping systems cool and safe but we had never seen fans as powerful as these!!
Just like Mr Hall, Mr Galloway needs his strong background in science, maths and engineering. He agrees that  listening to his customer's requirements enables him to design the correct heating and cooling solutions.

Thank you very much for spending time with us and answering all our questions, and we loved our jet pens!!

Later we finished our product,

Set up our stall......
And sold, sold, sold  for comic Relief!
We were glad we listened to the opinions in our market research because we sold out very quickly and hads lots of happy customers!

Enterprise week. Visiting speaker.

Mr Hall, Jamie's Dad, came to speak to us today about his job. He designs lorries to meet the specific needs of customers. These can be as varied as transporting expensive sports cars, to beer barrels, from refrigerated supermarket products to whole orchestras of instruments!

He described the skills he uses everyday; speaking, problem solving, product knowledge, maths and numeracy, but most impoortantly listening to the client's needs. He explained how the company continuously looks to the future and evolves according to new invention particularly in respect of care for the environment.

Mr Hall also reminded us of the importance of presenting oneself correctly, being punctual, smart and polite,

Thank you very much Mr Hall for our glimpse into the world of work ......and your lorries are amazing!!!!!

Follow up work..........
Here we are analysing our market research, designing and making our product. As our part in looking to the future we are promoting Fair trade by including the logo to remind people to buy Fair trade.

Enterprise week

For enterprise week we are making cushions to promote fair trade. Yesterday we conducted our market research we wanted to find out what colours the children liked. The choice was red, blue and green. We went to each class and recorded the results on a tally chart. We then asked if children  would prefer lavender or plain  cushions.

From our results we found out that red was the most popular colour and most children would prefer lavender.
