Science Making Connections

This week we started our 'Making Connections' topic with some research into how electricity is made and how it travels to our homes.
This video clip helps explain this process.

In our science we have been exploring different circuits and using our literacy skills to explain why certain circuits won't work.

We have also been learning the symbols that are used to represent electrical components.

In our topic we have researched the different jobs that robots do including factory work, assembling machines and packing, car washing,  sheep shearing, exploration and searching out danger.

We have learnt about the different components that are needed to make a simple robot.

How many components can YOU identify?

Can you explain how it works?

Spring term 2013

Happy New Year to you all!
When we return to school we are going to start out new topic - ROBOTS, but before we can do this, you need to decide what you want to find out about them. Here is a video clip of an amazing, entertaining robot called Titan. When you watch the clip, think about how he moves and speaks. What other features does he have that you might want to find out about? What about other robots that are used every day? What do you know and what would you like to know?

Design Technology. Tudor purses.

In our research we found that Tudor clothes did not have pockets.
It was common for people to carry pouches to hold their coins. These were tied on to their belts or clothes.
We have designed and made our own Tudor pouches with working drawstrings to open and close the purses.
We have developed our sewing skills by using a running stitch to make a hem, and a stronger chain stitch to join the sides up securely. We threaded a leather string through the hem to create the draw string.

Just pray there are no Cut-purses  around today!
