As part of our "On the Move" topic we have looked at moving parts of an image around to create a photo montage. The picture below is by the artist David Hockney and was created using a series of photographs of his mother.
Hockney has always used the camera both as a sketchbook and a diary. He has recorded his travels, his friends and family and the everyday objects of the world in which he lives.
He has made numerous paintings and drawings of his parents, in particular his mother, and is here representing her in the medium of photography. This photomontage is made using a series of photographs of the old lady. Hockney took several front views and then moved to either side of his mother, taking more shots.
The photos are pasted on top of each other in what seems to be an almost arbitrary way but the overall effect is that of a complete portrait.
We used photographs of ourselves taken from different viewpoints. We then cut all three pictures up and reassembled them in a new way. Hockney tried to capture the personality and individuality of his mother in his composition.
Look at our pictures. Can you recognise the essence of each one of us?

Take a look at this video clip which might inspire you to think about, and ask questions about how our bodies actually move and how we are capable of doing such amazing things.!
